Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A regular planned maintenance and inspection scheme is now offered by Fodens Ltd. It will be of particular benefit to operators who have limited maintenance facilities and have difficulty when applying for an operator's licence.

This scheme will apply to Foden standard on-road vehicles and Concrete mixer chassis and will be available at the Sandbach repair centre as well as at the depots at Bow (London), Darlington and Glasgow: an additional depot is planned at Bristol and the scheme will be operated from there also.

The scheme, based on a 5000-mile cycle time, is available to operators in four parts. Part A is limited to a vehicle/chassis wash to a standard considered suitable for the annual test, while a major maintenance check is included in Part B. This is the most comprehensive of the services listed. It includes a complete check around the vehicle and is similar to the inspection carried out at DoE test stations. As well as checks of all units for oil leaks, secure mountings, excessive wear and steering alignment, the functioning of the electrical equipment is also checked.

Part B goes beyond the DoE test in including tappet adjustment, check of fuel-pump governor operation and so on. It also includes a brake test.

For Part C there is only a minor maintenance check involving tightness of various bolts, checking of oil levels and other adjustments. And Part D is similar except it includes chassis lubrication, engine-oil change and gearbox and differential oil changes at specified mileages. The minor maintenance checks in Part C are also repeated.

Fodens will devise a programme in conjunction with the operator to determine what parts of the scheme and their timing would suit his vehicle/fleet operation. Any work found to be required on these services will only be carried out after authorization from the operator.

Set scales of charges have been developed by Fodens and these vary according to the size of vehicle and do not include the price of materials. All maintenance and inspection documentation from the scheme satisfy DoE requirements.

In addition to the maintenance scheme Fodens now offer an accident repair service; this includes a free estimate of damage repair for Foden vehicles involved in accidents. And a free collection service for the unladen vehicle to the repair depot. In the event of the vehicle being laden, charges for recovery and /or delivery will be at normal towing rates. As with the contract maintenance the accident repair service only applies to Foden vehicles.
