Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SMITHS Transport Services (Gatwick), its transport manager and six drivers will appear at Chichester Crown Court for trial by jury, Crawley Magistrates' Court decided last week.

The case (CM July 14 and August 11) involves the company's manager and drivers allegedly committing 213 offences under Section 99(5) of the 1968 Transport Act, in less than two months — that is making false entries on a record sheet while knowing them to be false.

The defendants are on unconditional bail. They are: David Benjamin Smith, of Crawley (the manager); Kenneth Jack Valentine Bowen of Crawley; Colin James Teuten of Charlwood, Surrey; John Percy Pelling of Crawley; Kenneth Roger Wickens of Reigate; and David Thomas of Crawley.

Prosecuting for the Metropolitan Traffic Area, John Corballis requested that the other 549 summonses about drivers' time and rest periods and failure to use the tachograph brought against the defendants should be adjourned.

The crown court date has yet to be set, and the defendants pleas are still unknown.
