THE ATMOSPHERE was tense as the eight finalists waited to take their turn, not only in the driving tests, but in the preliminary tests aimed at stretching their knowledge of procedures.
Finalists were asked to look at a vehicle with built-in faults, either in the load or the vehicle or both. They examined the type of vehicle that they were familiar with, either rigid or articulated.
Marshals awarded penalty points at the rate of five for each fault not found within the tenminute examination period.
From the faults, finalists went
to the "Road Traffic Situa Test" in which the finalists v sited, stationary, in what described as -a typical tn situation" including a having run into the back I van.
Once in this situation, dri, had to collect informat relating to the position wi. ten minutes, with five pen points being awarded for e piece of information missed.
Once these tests were c pleted, the men went on to manoeuvring tests descri with diagrams on page 27.
