• Leicestershire haulier Patricia Bakewell's 0-licence has been revoked on financial grounds by Eastern Deputy Traffic Commissioner Brian Horner. The DTC is also proposing to disqualify Bakewell from holding or obtaining a licence for an indefinite period after he failed to attend a Cambridge disciplinary inquiry.
Nailstone-based Bakewell's licence was originally revoked by then Eastern TC Brigadier Compton in July 1997.
The TC also refused her application to increase the licence authorisation from four vehicles and eight trailers to nine vehicles and eight trailers, On appeal, the Transport Tribunal said the matter should be reconsidered and that the TC's decision failed to mention a proposed factoring arrangement and he had not addressed the position in respect of the existing licence. If Bakewell did not have appropriate financial standing for nine vehicles, he still had to consider the existing vehicles.
Revoking the licence with immediate effect, Homer said he had adjourned the proceedings in June because he was not satisfied about Bakewell's financial standing and because of concern about a lack of accounts He was aware of money owed to the Inland Revenue and unpaid VAT He was concerned that despite warning letters and requests for annual accounts and other records, none had been provided.
Giving Bakewell three weeks to make representations against the proposed disqualification order, Horner said it was unfortunate that she had breached the small amount of faith he had put in her when he had allowed the licence to continue for a short period. Bakewell had failed to meet any of the undertakings.
