A BLOCK release course for 12 youngsters who are taking part in the Young Driver Training Scheme is being held at the North Worcestershire College, Bromsgrove.

The course is the first of its kind in the country and at the end of it the young drivers will be taking a Royal Society of Arts exam, again the first of its kind.

Senior Lecturer, Mr Arthur Burgess, explained that the course is split up into three parts: transport operation; records and basic technical skills.

Each student does a four week course, returns to his employer and then goes back to college for another four week period at the end of which they face the examination.

"It is not a requirement of the Training Scheme that they pass the exam but they must complete the course satisfactorily" said Mr Burgess.
