Depot opening

WILKINSON Transport's new £250,000 depot at Leeds was opened by Home Secretary Mr Merlyn Rees last week.

The new depot is on a 2.5 acre site with 48 access doors along its 200 feet long loading bay which is 50 feet deep. The new depot is designed to provide daily delivery services to Yorkshire and Humberside.

Carryfast expansion

SPD Group member Carryfast have opened their fifteenth depot — at Sedgefield, Cleveland — to make them the fourth largest independent carrier in the country.

The new depot was opened by SPD chairman Mr Ian Daniel who told guests that the company was now operating 300 vehicles, delivering 20,000 consignments every week.

Mr Daniel said that the new depot represented a significant step forward. The company had been operating from temporary premises in Darlington since 1973.

Town restrictions

HATFIELD town centre is to be a restricted area for commercial vehicles over three tons unladen. Access will be for loading and unloading only for other vehicles in the area.

The affected area is bounded' by the Barnet by-pass, A414 Herford Road, A1000 Old North Road and A1001 Southern Link Road, but the aim is to prevent heavy vehicles from using the A1057 as a through route.

Record profit

WADHAM STRINGER have announced a record interim profit before tax of £1,280,000 — an increase of 12 per cent on the previous year.

Turnover for the period was £50,500,000. The board have declared a dividend of 5.2 per cent payable on November 20.
