Some idea of the problems came to light last month in a European parliament debate on a common speed plan by Dutch Euro MP Ben Visser.
Visser suggested the following limits for lorries and coaches: Motorways: between 7787kin/h (48-54mph) for a transitional period with the final figure to be decided later. (There will be exceptions for dangerous stretches of road).
