DRIVING a commercial vehicle in Britain is a comparative!) hazardous occupation, according to accident statistics compiled 13) the United Nations.
The figures show that though relatively few commercial vehick drivers die on British roads, the number of injured is well above tha recorded in other big EEC countries.
Accident tables for 1978 — the latest available at the UN — shov that in Britain there were 179 deaths and 10,159 injured.
In West Germany the figures (including agriculture tractors) werc 493 killed and 7,639 injured and in France the 1977 figure was 20: killed and 3,197 injured.
Italian roads saw the most fatalities — 370 commercial drivers ir 1978, but there were only 4,997 injured.
