DRIVING TEST VOLUNTEERS

UOLDERS of provisional driving I 'licences taken out for the first time since August 31, may volunteer to undergo the driving test. They should mark applications, "Volunteer."

The object of the Bill before Parliament is the exemption from test of all drivers who have held a war-time provisional licence for a continuous period of 12 months and who have not been convicted of certain offences. Those who have held such licences for only a short time may eventually be tested. By volunteering now, they can avoid the need for displaying ' L " plates and being accompanied by an experienced licence holder when they come to renew their present licences.

The form for application is D.L.26. obtainable from any local taxation office or from a General Post Office.

INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT MEETINGS

AN ordinary meeting of the Institute of Transport will be held on November 11 at the Institution of Electrical Engineers in London. at 5.30 p.m., when Mr. Gilbert Walker, D.Litt., M.A., will speak on "The regulation of goods motor transport by the Federal Government in the United States."

On November 14 there will be a meeting of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Section, at 7 p.m., at the South Wales Institution of Engineers, when Mr. T. G. Davies. A.M.Inst.T., will lecture on "Systems of Fare Collection."

The annual dinner of the East Midlands Section will be held at the Victoria Station Hotel, Nottingham, on November 15.-.
