Oil and Petrol-engined Passenger Vehicles, All of Which Embody the Well-known Daimler Fluid Flywheel Transmission

— Stand 82

L'OUR passenger vehicles and . I C.O.G.5-type oil-engined doubledeck chassis are featured by the Daimler concern. The stripped chassis is powered by the Gardner 5LW oil engine and has the well-known Daimler Fluid Flywheel transmission incorporating the Wilson four-speed pre-selective self-changing gearbox. The final drive

is by means of an offset undersiung worm-driven axle. Power-assisted -brakes are provided, and are of the three-servo type.

.A feature of the braking system is an automatic mechanism which maintains each brake shoe in perfect adjustment throughout the life of the brake facing, simply through the action of the driver applying the brakes by means of the pedal.

Other points on this chassis worthy of note are the flexible engine mountings,. grouped lubrication system, and the neat manner in which the electric wiring has been arranged. The lastnamed is completely enclosed and protected in square conduits, and, at the same time, is easily accessible by means of detachable covers. Improvements have been effected in the self-changing gearbox, and, whilst the show chassis is equipped with a four-speed gearbox, a five-speed type is available if required.

Having as its basis a chassis with similar features to--that described above, is a single-deck bus to be seen with a body by Weymann's Motor Bodies (1925), Ltd. Accommodation is provided for 35 passengers.

Two double-deck buses are on view; the first incorporates the Gardner sixeylindered 6LW off engine. This power unit has a capacity of 8.4 litres, and the bore and stroke are 108 mm. and 152.4 mm. respectively. The chassis layout is the same as the C.O.G.5-type, and, again, the 56seater body is a product of Weymann's Motor Bodies (1925), Ltd.

A further 50-seater double-decker model has a body by the MetropolitanCammell Carriage and Wagon Co., Ltd., and it is mounted on the Daimler C.O.A,6-type chassis, which is powered by an A.E.C. six-cylindered oil engine.

As a final exhibit, the Daimler con

cern is featuring a -luxury coach, the basis of which is the C.P.6 chassis.' Haying a wheelbase of 17 ft., the. availablebody space is 22 ft. 8 ins. It is noteworthy that this is the only machine on the stand to be powered by a petrol engine, the unit being the Daimler six-cylindered 6.5-litre type, the bore and . stroke of which are 103,5 rem, and 130 mm. respectively. Overhead valves are employed, and an important feature is the manner in which the cam profile has been developed to allow a wide tolerance in tappet 'adjustment. Whilst coil-type ignition is standard, a vertical type of magneto can be fitted.—Daimler Co., Ltd., Coventry.
