New 7i-1onner Weighing Under 4 Tons Unladen and Forward-control 4tanner in 21-ton Class

Stand 24

PERHAPS of kreatest interest on this stand', • by -reason 'of its recent introduction, is the forward-control icur-wheeled model GD4/7 chaSsis, rated to carry a load of about 72.. tons. With a wheelbase of 12 It. 3 ins., a standard body length of 15 ft. is pro

• vided, whilst a bOdy 17 ft. long may be mounted upon the long-wheelbase model. The body is 7 ft. 4f ins, wide and has sides 1 ft. 6 ins. deep.

From the Gardner LW-type four cylindered oil engine of bore and 6-in., stroke, developing 63 Ei.h.ja. at 1,550 r.p.m., power is transmitted to the overhead-worm rear axle through a single-plate clutch, a four-speed gearbox and propeller shafts incorporating Hardy Spicer needle-type joints. .

Lockheed hydraulic brakes, vacuum assisted, take effect on all four wheels,

upon which are mounted 36-in.' by heaN y-duty '.tyres, there being twins at the rear. The equipment in

eludes a spare wheel; tyre and 'carrier, and a 12-volt five-lamp lighting Set. The chassis price is £990, whilst, with

a body, the vehicle weighs tons 19 cwt. in .standard form. '

The 4-ton forward-C6rittol chassis was introduced several months ago and created considerable interest by reason of the fact that it falls within the 2f-ton class, qualifying it to travel at 30 m.p.h. This low weight is achieved despite the use of an oh engine, the power unit employed being the wellknown four-cylindered Perkins Leopard of 3.94-in, bore and , S-in. stroke, developing a maximum of 60 b.h.p. at 2,400 r.p.m.

The transmission details are similar to those relating to the larger model. —Arran Motors, Ltd., Bridge Road East, Welwyn Garden City.
