• Although currently owned t00% by chairman Martyn Chapman (formerly a Pall-Ex member), UPN insists it

wants all network members—who are invited to join as associates—to become stakeholders after two years of unbroken service. Managing director Andrew Spencer says that the network's status as the smallest of the top six in volume terms is not a disappointment. "We know where we are," he says. "The top three are the market leaders but we saw a dramatic increase in memberships during 2002." Last September the group moved its hub from the original base in Nottinghamshire to new premises in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Members must conform to UPN's Network Procedures Manual. Weekly statistics are published on sales and service, showing individual performance against agreed delivery targets and volumes of deliveries into specific regions. A membership committee, comprising at least half a dozen depot principles, meets quarterly.
