Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Double-deckers are shedding their image as expensive bespoke systems. Flexible designs to suit general haulage operations have emerged and one sign that demand is there is the increase in the number of trailer builders offering systems. Boalloy, Kel-Berg, Lawrence David, Southfields and Wilson TS are among those offering double-deck options.

Hauliers can gain extra flexibility by equipping curtainsiders with a fixed, swivel or mechanically lifting deck. Mobile Door's 0-rail system is an example of the simplest form of double-deck: the top load is placed on transverse aluminium beams located in tracks in the sidewalls. Advantages are that the beam spacing and height can be varied to suit the load, but the downside is the extra loading time. The beam system also works with ourtainsiders. Schmitz for example, has developed a version in which the cross-beams locate in the five sliding side posts along each side. There are steel longitudinal support bars running between the posts.
