• A record entry, tough competition and a visit from the Licensing Authority were the highlights of last Sunday's contest in Dunfermline. There were 109 drivers fighting it out for eight places in this year's final and, although the showing of most of the class winners was noteworthy, the outstanding performance of the day was that of J. GoIdle, of National Carriers Ltd. driving a 33ft flat artic outfit in class G; he turned in a score of only 95 penalty points and even at this early stage in the competition he must be recognized as one of the likely prize-winners at the final.

Talking to the competitors, 1 gathered that a great deal of practice had taken place and Mr A. B. Birnie, the Scottish LA, remarked on the high standards achieved by the drivers in the heavier classes.

This is the sixth time the competition has been held in Dunfermline and the efficiency of the organizers improves each year. This year the Countess of Elgin was presenting the prizes 6-1hours after the competition had started. Possibly the most delighted prize-winners were the members of the Dunfermline Town Council team, who wrested the team prize from the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works. The corporation men first won this award in 1964.
