• An MP has opened a campaign to oblige road haulage firms to provide better insurance cover for their drivers.
Mr Leslie Huckfield, Labour, Nuneaton, who is himself a former long-distance driver, is tabling questions to two Ministers on the subject.
He is to ask Mr Mason, president of the Board of Trade, What are the insurance regulations governing the employment of drivers, and Mr Mulley, Minister of Transport, what representations he has received about insurance cover for drivers.
Mr Huckfield told CM: "My action follows a recent TV programme which exposed the fact that many road haulage firms are either not insuring their drivers properly or not insuring them at all."
