A NEW ),ehicle and trailer embody

ing novel features to increase capacity and facilitate loading and unloading have been added to the large fleet of Glover and Main, Ltd., Gothic Works, Edmonton, London, N. The complete outfit was built to the special requirements of the company primarily tor the bulk transport of gas cookers and meters. Initially it will be operating between Edmonton and the Bristol branch. • The vehicle and trailer were supplied by A.C.V. Sales, Ltd., and the bodywork of the Mandator prime mover and the Carrimore trailer was built by Glover, Webb and Liversidge, Ltd. The cab is panelled in aluminium and has special provision for comfort and good ision for the driver and mate.

The bodies are hardwood-framed and panelled in aluminium and Plymax. The Mandator body is reinforced to lake a second floor approximately 3 ft. 3 in. above the lower floor.

Second Floor

This second floor is made in detachable sections for ease of loading and unloading, each section being supported on longitudinal angle members running along each side of the body, The rear pillars are arranged so that the upperfloor scctiOns, when lifted on to the tailboard and raised to the second-floor position, slide easily along the supporting angles towards the front of the ‘.

There is a Burtonwood double-tier cable-operated tailboard loader, operated by a winch handle •fitted on the near side, at the rear of the vehicle. Detachable castors can be fitted to the platform, so that after a tier of cookers has been unloaded on to it, the tailboard can be lowered to the full extent of the cable, thereby automatically releasing both side struts and allowing the unit to be used as a stillage. A spring-compensated roller shutter comes down to the top of the tailboard when it is closed.

The body of the trailer is capable of being fitted with a second floor if required. In addition to the normal stop and brake lights, three reflectors have been spaced along the near side of thetrailer.

Louvres in the front and rear of both the Mandator and trailer allow a cool stream of air to pass through while the vehicle is in motion, When fully loaded, the complete outfit can carry about 150 cookers or 2,250 meters, compared with the normal load of 60 cookers OT 1.000 meters. The maximum

payload is 12 tons 8 cwt. The body of the A.E.C. is 20 ft. long and that of the Carrimore 21 ft. 6 in. Both are

FL 8 in. wide and have an internal height of 7 ft. 2 in.
