QUFFERING a weekly loss of £1.000, 1.-.)Birmingham Transport Department have applied to the West Midland Licensing Authority for a revision of fare scales. Some 3d. and 4d. tickets may become Id. dearer, certain children's Id. tickets may also rise by Id., and additions of Id.-2d. are proposed to all charges for workmen's journeys. The increases are designed to yield an extra £320,000 a year.

The Authority has sanctioned an application by Crosville Motor Services, Ltd., for a general increase in fares, except for charges applicable to four routes, and has given similar permission to G. H. Austin and Sons, Ltd. Stratford-upon-Avon Blue Motors. Ltd., have received authority to modify a number of rates.

To achieve uniformity with the charges of Halifax Corporation buses on their routes to Bradford and Leeds, Hebble Motor Services, Ltd., seek to reduce some of their fares by d.-1 id. Increases, however, are sought on other services shared with the Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co., Ltd.

Sixty-three services arc listed in an application to the Northern Licensing Authority by Cumberland Motor Services, Ltd., to raise fares. It is proposed that the basic rates of 0.85d. and 0.726d. per passenger-mile both be increased to Id.

The Authority has granted Durham District Services, Ltd., permission to advance return fares of 6d. and upwards by Id.-6d., and single fares over 2d. by id.-Id.

The East Midland Licensing Authority has announced his willingness to sanction modified fares scales to yield City of Oxford Motor Services, Ltd., an extra £53,000 a year. The company originally submitted an A26 application designed to add £83,000 to revenue, but this was revised to obtain an extra £63,000 annually. Even in this form, however, it was unacceptable to the Authority.

Sanction has been given to Lincoln Transport Department to revise fares on 22 routes, and to the Trent Motor Tsaction Co., Ltd., in respect of 58.

The North Western Licensing Authority has announced his decision on the application made last December by the Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield undertaking to advance charges on 31 services. Increases of id.-lid. were sought. He has sanctioned these, with certain amendments.
