Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WE have recently had brought to our notice an interesting range 'of trailers -whiah is manufactured by Messrs. Radmore and Co., Radnaill House,. 139-143, Newhall Street, Birmingham. certain of the models being particularly useful for conimercial service.

The company manufactures several types of two-wheeled trailer, but that which is perhaps of greatest concern to commercial users is the four-wheeled unit built for carrying 2-ton loads. From the accompanying illustration it will be seen that the trailer is built on robust lines and, in the picture, it is shown with a framework erected for carrying a steel or wooden body. The chassis frame of the trailer is 10 ft. long and 4 ft. 6 Ins, wide and coneists ef straight steel channels suitably strengthened with cross-members and having the corners fitted with gusset plates so as to make for complete rigidity and greater strength.

This particular type of trailer has a turntable which enables the front wheels to be operated at the full turning lock. The axles are of square-section high-tensile steel and the wheels all run on ball. bearings. The wheels themselves are of the steel-disc detachable type with facility rims and are suitable for taking 32-in. by 41.ein: or 33-in. by 5-in, straight-sided tyres.

Special attention has been given to the question of springing and the assemblies, both front and rear, consist of a number of leaves which are of good length. As will be seen from the picture, the springing at the rear is somewhat unusual, this being occasioned by the distance separating the axle and the trailer frame. All shackle bolts are fitted with Stauffer-type greasers, but grease-gun nipples are offered as an alternative.

-Internal-expanding brakes are fitted in the rear wheels, the shoes being faced with Perodo. In order to meet the requirements of the law,., it is arranged that the brakes can be operated by means of a steel cable from the driving position of the -prime Mover. A handlever is also fitted so that the brakes can be operated when ' the vehicle is stationary. ,

A -strong drawbar is attached tothe undercarriage carrying the turntable, and this is provided with a chain and pin attachment to permit of easy coupling to the haulage unit.

The track of the trailer is 5 ft. 7 ins., and the—height of the body from the ground level is 3 ft. 2 ins. The approxi

mate weight of the trailer without tyres is 11 cwt.

The trailer is of strong construction throughout and is intended to stand up not only to conditions of operation likely to be encountered in this country, but also to those met with overseas. Furthermore, owing to the simplicity of the design and the fact that all parts are made to jig, the outfit can readily be erected by unskilled labour after having been shipped in the dim-assembled conditions.

The company's general-utility model Is a two-wheeled all-steel trailer built for dealing with 15-25-cwt. loads. This

is available in two sizes, the chassis frame of one being 8 ft. long and 4 ft. 6 ins, wide, and of the other 6 h. long and 4 ft. 6 ins. wide. Long underslung springs are used, and the type of drawbar etnployed has an improved cup-and-ball attachment which, it is said, cannot shake loose ; this coupling is' capable of easy adjustment. The height ofthe drawbar from the ground is 1 ft. 11 ins.

Another type of two-wheeled 'trailer produced by this company is intended for 6-7-cwt. loads, and, apart from other uses, should be found of value to the farmer for the conveyance of general and market produce. In its standard size, this trailer is 5 ft. 6 ins, long and 3 ft. 6 ins, wide and, generally speaking, its construction follows very closely-the other two-wheeled model to which we have referred.

The price of the four-wheeled trailer chassis complete is 193 5s., this being without body and tyres, but if a steelsided body is provided the price is £102 los.
