Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

platform vehicles operating on C licence. I also have a spare vehicle for which I have applied for a 8 licence to carry solid fuel in this area for another merchant. Since applying, however, I have learned of the existence of Contract A licences. Could you explain their conditions?

Also, where can I obtain information regarding the new braking and plating regulations referred to in a circular recently sent to coal traders?

AUnder current legislation, to obtain a

Con. A licence you need to satisfy the LA that you have a contract for at least one year to one named person exclusively for the carriage of his goods. But you would not be able to use the specified vehicle(s) for any other purpose.

However, should the Transport Bill now going through Parliament become law, the present carriers A, B and C licences will be superseded by a system of quality and quantity licensing.

The new braking and plating regulations have been explained in detail in COMMERCIAL MOTOR. In particular the issue of 30 June contained a report of the TRTA Conference dealing specifically with this subject.
