Heaven forbid that I should criticize the longest possible discussion being given to the Transport Bill, but the present situation hardly tallies with its provision for shorter driving hours. After sitting half the day and all night, MPs can drive home across London and return to the House for yet another session of similar length. Alertness, concentration and road safety go hand-in-hand; but perhaps they are stronger and more responsible than professional commercial vehicle drivers?
