Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QPERATORS of four wheeled double-deck of

registered before July 1, 1956, are to be allowed to modify them to increase the maximum length to 30 ft. The Minister of Transport, , who has invited representations on the proposal, has been told that worth-while economies in operation, and in capital expenditure by postponing vehicle renewals, would spring from the concession.

The result will be that all rigid motor vehicles, both passenger and goods, will be allowed to be built to a maximum length Of "-30 it,,

Another Another concession to be made is in the overhang of heavy moth-cars designed and used mainly as fire-fighting appliances, and not exceeding 20 ft. lo,ng overall. The proposal is that the overhang may be increased by not more than 9 in. beyond a length equal to half the wheelbase, but not exceeding 7/24th of the overall length.

This proposal is intended to facilitate the fitting of pumps at the rear of fire appliances. A similar Concession for heavy motorcars in general is not regarded as warranted. • Through an anomaly in drafting Regulations 39 and 44 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations, 1955, it might be. held illegal to construct a .works truck exceeding one ton unladen with only one braking system acting on the front wheels alone, as is usual in the case of a dumper steered by its rear wheels.. This effect is unintended and the error is to berectified.

. It is also proposed to permit inboard brakes, which act through shafts leading to the wheels, to be fitted in conjunction with the non-driving wheels, instead of the driving wheels, on commercial vehicles up to two tons unladen.
