ANUMBER of well-known persons was among the 275 guests present at the annual dinner of the Blackpool and District Motor Coach Owners Association on Friday last. They included Mr. W. Chamberlain, chairman of the North-Western Traffic Commissioners; Mr. W. Luff, Blackpool Corporation's transport manager ; Mr, W. L. Marshall, of the English Electric. Co., Ltd. ; Mr. R. Alan, of Leyland Motors, Ltd., and Mr. C. Watkinson, of Scout Motors, Ltd.

Mr. Chamberlain said that, in the North-Western Area there were about 750 operators, with five large concerns. From time to time they found operators passing out, but very slowly and of their own volition. An operator was never permitted to surrender a licence without going before the Commissioners, when he was asked whether the conditions imposed on his licence were such that he could not continue the business. Invariably, he replied : "I am going out, but on good terms."

SEASON TICKETS CAUSE " PHENOMENAL " TRAFFIC RISE.

GLASGGLASGOW CORPORATION'S latest OW returns show an increase of passengers and revenue in all three branches of the undertaking. The rise in the revenue from the buses was described by Mr. William Reid, sub-convener of the transport committee, as phenomenal, and he attributed it to the introduction of weekly season tickets.

FOLLOWl NG a suggestion by the 1 North Western Traffic Commissioners that a bus station should be established, Salford Corporation proposes to acquire property, occupying about 3,000 sq. yds., to be converted into a station.

CENTRAL COMMITTEE AND NEW PROCEDURE

yESTERDAY (Thursday) a meeting, of the Central Fares Committee was held to collate the minutes of the meetings of the Regional Fares Committees, which have been convened to consider proposals for expediting variations of fares. The Regional Committees have, in general, approved these recommendations.

PUBLIC DEMANDS "SEASONS."

WHEN W. Alexander and Sous, VV Ltd., applied to the Northern Scotland Traffic Commissioners for the withdrawal of season and special tickets for Invergowrie and Longforgan, Mr, H. Riches, the chairman, said: "Not likely. You would cause consternation in the district if that were done." It was agreed that seasonticket facilities should accordingly be continued.
