T HERE ERE were again few awards for men in the Queen's Birthday Honobrs, announced last week. Mr. R. P. Beddow, executive director, British Electric Traction Co., Ltd., was awarded a C.B.E., and Mr. F. D. Fitz-Gerald, secretary of the Traders' Road Transport Association, an 0.B.E. Mr. Hugh Molson, hint Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Transport, was made a Privy Councillor.

Id. INCREASE ON WEEK-END FARES?

AS foreshadowed in The Commercial Motor last week, Birmingham Transport Department is seeking permission to charge an extra Id. on all fares at week-ends and on Bank Holidays. If approved, the measure is expected to yield more than £400,000 a year.

Announcing this, the chairman of the transport committee, Aid. H. Watton, said the proposals were in preference to a general overall increase, which would be an added twist to the spiral of rising prices.

Notice that they intend to object to the application has already been given to the West Midland Licensing Authority by Birmingham Trades Council.

MAKE-UP OF R.T.C. FLEET

'THE constitution of the fleet of 7,649 I general haulage vehicles, aggregating 35.991 tons, to be retained by the British Transport Commission, was described by the Earl of Selkirk in the House of Lords Iasi week.

There will be 2,336 eight-wheelers, with an average unladen weight of about 7 tons; 493 six-wheelers, averaging 6 tons; 989 four-wheelers, 41 Eons; 1,899 tractors, 3i tons; 518 vehicles from 3-4 tons; 1,388 vehicles of 2-3 tons; and 26 under 2 tons.

The average unladen weight of the vehicles to be retained, which is 4.64 tons, is higher than that of the original fleet.
