IN RESPONSE TO CM'S comment in the 24 June edition on the subject of raising the speed limits for trucks, given that they are fitted with high-spec braking systems which have improved immeasurably since speed limits were introduced, Ed like to say the following: Praise the Lord brothers and sisters, for someone has seen the light!
So can somebody please tell me then why Brussels is forcing through legislation which will reduce the maximum speed of all vehicles between 3.5-7.5 tonnes to 56mph,causing even more congestion on our roads?
This was reported earlier in the year in CM, and 1 have been waiting for any response to this from an official body of some description.but nothing has been forthcoming. So it would appear that no-one seems to care, not a whisper from the RHA or the FTA,not even the government — who are always trying to find ways of reducing congestion.
So, brace yourselves:according to government figures for 2002.151,000 vehicles fell into this class. Add that to 275,000 trucks which are already limited to 56mph and this makes for one hell of a rolling road block.
