Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

on a recent column I mentioned that many Stateside haulage outfits are so desperate to find LGV drivers that they are running recruitment stands at truck shows and offering all sorts of inducements to retain staff Doubtless inspired by the thought of piloting a butch bonneted Kenworth conventional down Route 66, a number of drivers have been in touch to find more about moving to where the grass sounds greener

There's good news, and bad new& Steve Sturgess, CM's man on the Land of the Free, confirms that there really is a shortage of qualified truckers over there, with a 100% turnover in drivers — a 1,000-truck fleet needs to recruit an average of 1,000 drivers every year The catch, says Steve, is that "while trucking executives would lave to avail themselves of proven, qualified and reliable drivers, US imniigration effectively prevents the hiring of non-nationals. Getting a Green Card is the answer, but this is difficult to do unless you are doing a job for which no suitably qualified US citizen is available Unfortunately, for the moment truck driving does not fall into that category"
