BOB YOUNG is the new finance director of Midlands British Road Services, He replaces Ken Cook who has moved to Roadline — another National Freight Corporation company — after a farewell dinner last month.

Mr Young moves to his new post from the NFC where he was a systems development officer advising on cost control and computer uses.

Also at Midlands BRS, the Bromford Mills branch has a new manager — 35-year-old Allan McPherson who is to head a new management team at the branch.

Ron Evans becomes manager of the nearby Birmingham distribution centre handling vital car components and Kevin Roach becomes contracts manager.

Greater London Council planning and communications committee chief Shelagh Roberts has become chairman of the planning and transportation committee of the Association of Metropolitan Authorities.

David Stephenson has been appointed to the new post of branch and membership liaison officer for the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association.

The new job is designed to bring the membership closer to the association and contact potential members. Mr Stephenson, 27, joins the VBRA from a Hull car dealer where he was service manager.

London Transport has appointed a new safety man. He is J. D. Adams who becomes the central safety advisor responsible for co-ordinating LTs health and safety performance and policy.

National Bus Company has appointed a new divisional public relations officer for the South Wales area. He is 30-year-old Hadrian Gower who takes over from Stewart Williams who is leaving NBC.

Autoplan (Insurance Services) has appointed Barry Jones as sales manager for its fleet and domestic business.

At Automotive Products, William Moore is to join the main board of the company. He is a director and general manager of the original equipment division of the company, the Automotive division at Leamington Spa.

He will also be, taking on additional responsibility for the springs, rubber and pressings division at Birmingham.

David Glass is to be the new depot manager of the Ford and Slater company at Aylesbury in succession to John Gooch who is retiring.

Firestone Industrial Products has appointed K. E. Bauman as its sales director. He takes over from 1 K. Pascoe who moves to Brussels to head another sales operation.

Buckstone Motor Bodies has appointed Norman Woosey to its sales team to handle refrigerated and dry commercial vehicle bodies in the North West and Yorkshire.

Voluntary redundancy has meant that Scotland's Western SIM' bus company has lost 18 clippies with a total of 403 years' service between them as a result of the introduction of one-man buses.

Assistant to the group training officer for National Bus Company is Brian Evans. He joined the platform staff at the South Wales company in 1967 and became an inspector. in 1974 before moving to become a training officer in March 1976.

Barbados' minister of communications and works L. L. Braithwiath was in Oxford recently to see the success of the city's bus systems. The visit was arranged by National Bus following a request from Leyland who is supplying 60 Albion Viking buses to Barbados this summer.

Obituary

It is with regret that we announce the death of James Macauley, of Hamilton, who died at the age of 61. He ran his own business, Cadzow Plant, in Hamilton. The business will be carriec.t on by his son.
