IN a B.B.C. recorded interview last week, .L Mr. R. J. Ellery, chairman of East Midland Motor Services, Ltd., fortified his demand that car owners who accepted money from passengers should be prosecuted. He suggested also that the Ministry of Transport should draw the attention of applicants for vehicle licences to the law on the carriage of passengers.
Asked how public transport companies could be helped to overcome their difficulties, Mr. Ellery made three suggestions: (1) Rerfloval of the fuel tax; (2) parity for public service vehicles and cars in the matter of speed limits; (3) an increase to 36 ft. in the overall length of buses.
