NUITE a lot of matter regarding jpetrol piper., and their Weaknesses lies peered recently in this journal. Any ults in the petrol supply which may ad to leakage, quite possibly unoticed for some considerable time, conitute a grave danger, as fire may easily suit from the petrol, or fumes from it, ing fired by a flame from an exhaust pe, sparks, or, in certain instances, by rarette ends or matches within a hide itself.

The ordinary form of steel or copper trol piping is by no means ideal, and less very carefully fitted will vibrate d throw stresses upon any weak bets in the connections, particularly these be not soldered with the greatest re.

It is somewhat surprising that more a is not made of flexible petrol tubr, such of is employed to a consider

able extent op aeroplanes, motor boats, and for dealing with much greater volumes of fuel in the ease of road tank wagons and motor liners. It is also employed on practically all supply pumps at filling stations and garages.

Such a tubing is made by Holxlell, Way and Co., Ltd., 45, Church Street, Minories, London, E.1, and is known as Petro-Flex. This tubing is built up with two walls, the inner or lining consisting of a natural product totally unaffected by spirits or oils, whilst the outer wall is built up of special fire and waterproof canvas. Internal and external binding wire provides strength without any sacrifice of flexibility. The wire is solid-drawn and is so utilized that the internal armouring is practically embedded in the composition of the lining, thus providing a smooth bore and cutting down frictional resistance. The external wire Is helically wound, so that it flee in light intimate contact with the canvas body and prevents damage through rough usage.

Owing to its properties Petro-Flex tubing can be employed for oils as well as for fuels, and it is important to realize that, with flexible tubing, length is not a matter of great importance, whereas with steel or copper pipe-lines the vibration is greatly increased with a longer pipe.

Petro-Flex is supplied complete with unions and screw connections. If required, however, it can be supplied in lengths fa suit the buyer's own fittings. Such tubing as this should be particularly valuable for employment on passenger . vehicles, where it is essential that the safety factor should be raised to the highest possible degree.
