A DEVELOPMENT of a domestic refrigeration compressor for operation at 12 and 24 Volts has been introduced by Danfoss (London) Ltd of Greenford, Middlesex. The 24Volt model is suitable for installation in commercial and passenger transport vehicles.
It weighs only 9.3kg (20.51bs) complete for installation with cabinets up to 160 litres (5.6cuft), and is claimed to give a comparable service life to that of household refrigerators.
Noise level is low at only 25 dB(A). Energy consumption is also low at 2.5 amps and an override device is included to protect the battery from overdischarge. It will operate in ambient temperatures from 0 deg C to 55 deg C and will cool the cabinet to working temperature in less than an hour even if inclined at angles of up to 30 degrees.
