Keywords : Strathaven

• The fleet of Yuill and Dodds, of Strathaven, attracted several GV9s on its 28 vehicles and 21 trailers despite the claim of the firm's agent Mr J. Law that a "staggering amount" of money had been spent on new vehicles, maintenance and spares, and, as a result, the Scottish LA curtailed the licence by four vehicles at a Section 69 hearing last week.

At a previous inquiry, said Mr Law, a promise had been made that new premises were to be built but these had been delayed because of planning difficulties. Assurances were now given, however, that work on their construction was due to start on December 4.

Mr P. Harper, senior vehicle examiner, said that he had visited the existing premises and had been appalled at the way repairs were being handled in the open or a mud base. Twelve units had been examined and four immediate and thre( delayed GV9s had been issued.

The LA, Mr A. B. Birnie, said tha. when the firm had appeared before him or September 3 1971, applying for extrz trailers, there had been seven delayec GV9s but on being told that new premise: would be completed by the end of the yea] he had "given them a chance". Now however, he found the premises had no been erected and during that time si) immediate and seven delayed GV9s hat been issued.

In curtailing the licence by four vehicles the LA said he had some sympathy witt the operator and he would not be reluctan to review the situation in due course.
