Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A bus-only lane in North End, Croydon, extending between Chapel Walk and the bus stop north of George Street, has been approved for consultation purposes by the south area board of the GLC's environmental planning committee. It will be for southbound buses and operate during the morning and evening peak periods, 7.30 am to 9.30 am and 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm, Monday to Friday, leaving one lane available for other southbound traffic and one very wide one for the northbound traffic.

Taxis and cyclists will be allowed to use the lane which brings to 53 the number of such schemes approved so far (38 finally approved and 15 approved for consultation). Of these, 12 are already in operation, plus part of Oxford Street. By the end of the year it is expected that five more schemes will have been implemented.
