Ipswich ro-ro • The marine division of GEC-Elliott Mechanical Handling Ltd has received an order valued at approximately £100,000 for a roll-on/roll-off berth on the West Bank of the River Orwell for the Ipswich Dock Commission.

The terminal is expected to be in full operation by May 1973.

Hull-Hamburg

• Streamline, a company formed by Holland Steamship Co Ltd of Hull and Roever of Hamburg, commenced its lift-on/lift-off container service last month with the first vessel bringing 28 containers to Hull. It is operating from the BTDB berth at Queen Elizabeth Dock, Hull, and initially will run three times a fortnight.

This is now Hull's third lo-lo container service from the BTDB berth, the others being the twice-a-week Deutsche Seerederei service to Rostock, and the Rotterdam service operated on a five times a week basis by North Sea Ferries.

Air-road link • East Midlands TIR operator Thompson Jewitt is adding air freight to its road transport services. The air forwarder, Vulcan Freight Services, will provide a daily stinker service to link up with cargoes -;ollected during the day for overseas movement by Thompson Jewitt at the -.:ompany's main depot at Nottingham. These will be taken direct to London where ley will be processed by Vulcan for

customs clearance and subsequent flight • departure from Heathrow Airport.

LondonLille

• New French agents have been appointed by Constantine Forwarding Ltd in a move to develop groupage services between the UK and France and particularly direct services to the industrial area centred on Lille in Northern France.

The new French associates of Constantine Forwarding are Edouard Dubois et Fibs, whose head offices are at 9 Avenue de la Porte de la Chapelle, Paris 18e.

A twice-weekly service in each direction is being operated between London and Lille. A two-way trailer service is also operating between Constantine's own depots •in Manchester and Birmingham and Paris and Lille. This service is specially aimed at the large textile trade which exists between these two areas.

Denmark on Sundays

• Tor Line's latest 5500-ton cargo-only ferry, scheduled to enter service early in December, will provide a new ro-ro service between Immingham and Copenhagen. Sailings from Immingham will be every Sunday, arriving in Denmark on Tuesdays and return sailings the same day, arriving at Immingham on Thursdays.

The new ferry will permit Tor Line to put in an additional sailing on the Immingham-Rotterdam run, and an additional sailing on the Gothenburg-Antwerp service. Nine days to Arabia

• A new road-air service to Saudi Arabia has been started by freight forwarder Davies Turner and Co Ltd, 26 Queenstown Rd, London SW8, to overcome exporting problems caused by closure of the SyriaJordan border.

The company has linked its regular road run to Athens with flights to Saudi Arabia — and throughout the Middle East — to create a new two-way service with an average transit time of nine days. Departures are from London every Friday. Consignments loaded in London travel on the same lorry without any transhipment direct to the airport in Athens.

Anglo's Finland service • Anglo Overseas Transport Co Ltd— part of P & 0 Freight Forwarders — announces that it has just concluded an exclusive agreement with Oy Breweship AB of Helsinki, to offer a co-operating, road vehicle service between the UK and Finland.

The service, both ways via Copenhagen, is operated on a twice per week and depot-to-depot basis, with transit times in either direction of 4-5 days.

In the UK, departure is from Anglo's consolidation points; in London at the Hornsey depot, in Leicester at Cosby and from Hull at the Euroscan depot. Feeder services to these consolidation points may come from other depots at Birmingham and Manchester. In Finland, arrival and departure is watched over by Oy Breweship.

Because this road vehicle service makes no "ice surcharge" the company claims that the rates are very competitive.
