Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Volvo F88 truck and drawbar outfit was tested at 32 tons gtw over CM's operational trial route to Scotland this week. Compared with the F86 drawbar outfit tested at 32 tons gtw earlier this year (CM March 31 1972) the F88 completed the route in 14hr less driving time, at an average speed of 38.4 mph.

The bigger engine (235 bhp to BS AU 141a: 1971) gave improved acceleration and hill-climbing but used more fuel. In very bad weather conditions the F88 returned an average consumption of 6.0 mpg for the 729 miles, compared with 6.S mpg for the F86. Payload of the F8E 6 x 2 truck, plus the four-wheel drawba] trailer, was 20.45 tons compared with tlu 22.1 tons of the F86.

The vehicle was in standard trim apar from the splitter gearbox (£275), the 11.0( tyre equipment (£185) and VBG 80( towing hitch (£200 fitted). List price of tht unit is £6925 and the Taskers drawbai trailer £1250. A full report of the test wil appear in CM in the near future.
