OPTIMISM LEVELS were maintained in July, as the score matched June's 56. Of the respondents, 77% were either very optimistic or fairly

optimistic about their firm's prospects over the next year, while 21% were either not very optimistic or not at all optimistic. Own-account operators were the most positive in July, and

slightly more positive than they were in June: their optimistic/not optimistic split improved from 82/18 to 85/15.

Logistics and contract distribution firms were next, although they were less positive than the previous month, posting a split of 74/27 in July compared with 85/11.

Optimism among hire or reward hauliers improved, as their split rose from 68/29 to 72/25.
