MAGISTRATES in Chesterfielc have fined Derek Poole, tradinE as Erewash Garage, a recorc total of £3,930 and £100 cost: after he pleaded guilty to 131 overloading offences.
Eleven of the company's driv ers were fined a total of £4,00`, with £240 costs after admittinc. similar offences.
The offences were revealec when a Derbyshire trading stan dards officer visited a Nationa Coal Board sorting site at Ox croft, near Chesterfield Weighbridge tickets showed tha only 31 loads out of 356 wen correct. Some vehicles were si; tons overweight.
Mr Poole and some of hi. drivers said the lack of weighbridge at the opencas sites made it impossible fo them to judge the weight of thei loads. The prosecutions wen only for loads which weri overweight by more than oni ton.
