Various characteristics determine the motor's power, but it is found that a speed of from 16 m.p.h. to 20 m.p.h. is sufficient for retail deliveries, although higher and lower speed ranges can be provided to suit any particular requirements. It must not be forgotten that the higher the speed the smaller the range.

The cleanliness will be obvious, since there is an entire absence of any combustion, and the temperatures of all working parts are low. There is, therefore, nothing to cause fumes or smell of any kind.

There is a class of vehicle which is becoming more popular, and the use of which may be expected to increase. This is the electrically assisted handcart, which is used for short rounds where previously handcarts have been employed. In this type of vehicle the operator does not ride, but walks with it. He is relieved of all the work required in pushing and has only to steer.

The additional uses to which the electric vehicle can be put are almost limitless, and so far only the fringes of the possible market have been explored.
