An A.A Cab and Car Census in Central London

NAUCH has been said regardnaing the congestion caused in Central London by private cars, and in a police census of London traffic, cabs and cars together. represented 38.4 per cent. of all vehicles. Observations made by the A.A. during four hours of a recent fine Tuesday, when the roads were dry, showed that there were nearly 1,3110 more cabs than cars in Piccadilly during that time. The actual periods of observation were 9 to 10, 1 to 2, 3-to '4 and .6 to 7. At a point in Oxford Street where an observation was made, of the 2,626 vehicles that passed, 1,469 were cars and 1,157 cabs, and of the latter, 984 were disengaged. Referring to the Piccadilly figures, the cabs numbered 3,172, and .2,365 had no passengers. If this does little else, it may prove that the cab industry is not so flourishing as some people believe.
