AN inexpensive and easily fitted governor for Fords, Fordsons and Bedfords is now being handled by R. M. Papelian, Ltd., F.,dgware Road, Cricklewood, London, N.W.2. Designated the Chicago, it is operated by the flow of gas through the induction pipe, a throttle valve automatically cutting off the supply at a predetermined rate of flow.
As can be seen from an accompanying drawing, the valve is restrained from moving by a coiled compression spring, the pressure imparted to the arm on the valve spindle being adjustable by the screw shown on the left. It can be regulated only by means of a key, to be retained• in the possession of an authorized person. Access to the
simple mechanism cannot be gained by the driver. Rotation of the key when the governor is installed and with the engine running enables the device to be set so as to operate at the desired road speed. The arms and spring mounting are so arranged that the spring is not deformed during compression and expansion in any position of the adjuster.
The Chicago governor is sold with joint-washers, studs and nuts, control and ,petrol-pipe adapters ready for attachment to the make and type of engine specified. In addition wires and lead seals are provided as an additional insurance against unauthorized alteration of the setting. The list price is only £2 15s.
