UPN expects Verran will boost pallet volumes

joannatourkelarbi.co.uk UNITED PALLET Network (UPN) is confident of higher volumes in Oxfordshire after local member Verran Freight acquired the goodwill and assets of cash-strapped neighbour Freight Shepherd.
UPN director Dave Brown says: "One of our members has doubled its customer base and has lost one of its rivals, so this is good news for us. I expect there will now be higher pallet throughput from Verran Freight, and its good to see some jobs were saved at Freight Shepherd.
As reported by Roadtransport. corn last week, Abingdon-based Verran Freight took over the customer list and a number of employees from nearby haulier Freight Shepherd, which appointed Philip Gorman of Hazlewood UL,P as its liquidator on 23 September. The firm had been crippled by had debts over the past 18 months, including a £125,000 debt by one retail customer that went bust.
In addition, Verran Freight has added the Oxford area to its current UPN coverage, which includes Reading and Swindon.
• Brown says: "The company had been helping out in Oxford as there was no-one permanently looking after that region, but it will now be the sole member for that area. It's a prosperous time for Verran Freight."
