Those of you who thought the "Famous Five' were an Enid Blyton creation obviously need to get out of the house more often. As everyone in road transport knows, there's only one Famous Five (left to right): Debbie Mesher of lsuzu UK; Gill Sheddick of Norbert Dentressangle; Debbie Burton of DonBur; Rebecca Jenkins of the Peter Lane Group; and Nikki King of Isuzu. And instead of cycling endlessly about Dorset drinking lashings of ginger beer, this famous five have been working tirelessly on a series of events culminating in the recent Famous Frye Mardis Gras Ball held at the Café Royal.

So why should hard-bitten hauliers be interested in that? Because together they've raised close to 125,000 for five charities. Not a bad score for their first ever venture into bigtime fund raising. And not content with making the industry put its hand in its pocket, Debbie Mesher took the stage at the head of her band, Eclipse, which ensured the dance floor was kept full to over-flowing.

It goes without saying that the Hawk shook the mothballs out of his trusty tuxedo to cut a rug with the glitterati (shouldn't that be transporatiP—Ed). Foden and I had a wonderful time until being shown the door after an unfortunate misunderstanding with the cabaret artiste who performed the dance of the seven veils.
