Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A BIG surplus on trolleybuses was

responsible for Nottingham Transport Department's first profit for seven years in the year ended March 31 last. At the end of 1954-55, trolleybuses had a surplus of £70,145, against a loss of £15,664 on motorbuses. The profit on the undertaking was £54,481, compared with a loss of £1,513 during the previous year.

These figures were given in the annual report of the transport committee, which was considered by the City Council on Monday.

In spite of the satisfactory year, the report. warned that there was "no ground for complacency" about the future, as the last wage awards to staff had not operated for a full year, and higher wages in allied industries had only recently been reflected in prices of materials.

Income during the year increased by £103,367 to £1,760,660, expenses rising by £26,775 to £1,515,282. Loan charges increased by £20,599 to £190,898.

Money was saved on tyres and uniforms, and central administrative charges were reduced by a further £2,500 to £7,500.

Mileage operated by trolleybuses fell by 231,000, motorbuses covering an extra 163,000 miles.

Tozcrs Transport, Ltd., have ordered 50 Octopus eight-wheelers to the value of £200,000. The company recently called for 30 Comets in addition to an earlier order for 50.
