Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Southern Scotland.

WHEN the Southern Scotland Traffic Commissioners sit at Glasgow, on October 25-26, the licence applications will be chiefly in respect of stagecarriage services. There will be a fair amount of objection, some of it being provided by the L.M.S. Railway Co. and the Western S.M.T. Co., Ltd.

Northern, THE Northern Traffic Commissioners sit at Newcastle to-day, and much of their time will be absorbed by applicsrtious from the Northern General Transport Co., Ltd.

Another batch of stage-carriage applications will be dealt with at the sitting to-morrow, also to be held in Newcastle. Applicants at the hearing at West Hartlepool, on October 17, will be chiefly small operators, many seeking the renewal of licences with modifications. These remarks apply aLso to the sitting to be held at Newcastle, on October 18.

Yorkshire.

NUMDROUS applications in respect • of excursions and tours and express carriages will be made at the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners' sitting at Leeds, on October 18, whilst there will also he a sprinkling of stage-carriage applications. Up tO the time of Gazette 76 closing for press no objection appears to have been received.

East Midland.

MANY of the applications at the East

Midland Traffic Commissioners' sitting at Luton, on October 18, will be made by the United Counties Omnibus and Road Transport Co., Ltd., for stage-carriage licences, most of the other applicants being small operators. A large amount of business is scheduled for bearing at this sitting.

Eastern.

A CERTAIN amount of opposition,

notably from the L.M.S. and L.N.E.R. companies, and London General Country Services' Ltd., will add interest to the Eastern Traffic Commissioners' sitting at Hertford, on October 18-19, when, as well as considering a number of stage-carriage applications, the Commissioners will have to deal with several important long-distance services.

South Wales.

A CONSIDERABLE number of ad

journed applications will be heard by the South Wales Traffic Commissioners when they sit at Bridgend, on October 13 (and the following day, if necessary). The business of the day will be concerned chiefly with stage carriages, and there will be a fair amount of objection.

At Newport, on October 18 (and the following day, if necessary), some halfdozen applications will be made in respect of season-ticket rates, and several well-known operators in the South Wales Area, as well as the Great Western Railway Co., will offer opposition to various applications.

Metropolitan.

LONG-DISTANCE services run by

several well-known operators will be reviewed at the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner's sitting in London, on October 18. The routes concerned include those from London to Plymouth, Paign ton, Bournemouth and Fell vstoNee,. Opposition from taxicab interests will be offered to an application to run a service for the benefit of dancers.
