T1 ASTBOTJRNE has always been
4 U noted as a health resort, and many invalids repair thither on leaving a hospital or nursing home in London. The problem of transport, however, is a serious one, for the rushand worry of a train journey are out of the question and the ordinary car is by no means ideal for a sick-person.
Caffylis, Ltd. of 56, Terminus Road, Eastbourne, realizing that a demand for such a vehicle existed, have recently completed a special private ambulance, which in outward appearance is indistinguishable from an ordinary Daimler saloon. The body, however, is so designed that the patient. may lie in comfort on a stretcher bed with two attendants seated on small folding seats, whilst a second stretcher bearer can be accommodated beside the driver.
The driver sits in his own compartment, means of communication being, of course, provided. The stretcher bed projects into the space beside the driver usually occupied by the front seat, whilst four doors are fitted in addition to those at the back of the car through which the patient is carried on the stretcher.
The interior equipment is of the most luxurious description, for the stretcher bed is sprung independently of the car and may be so adjusted that the patient can assume a half-reclining position if
desired, Electric lighting, a lavatory basin and interior heating are provided, whilst all windows are of -Triplex glass. The body is mounted on a standard 30 h.p. Daimler chassis, and the fact that it is indistinguishable from a private limousine is found to make a strong appeal to those using it. The charge for removal of patients in the Borough of Eastbourne, including a second stretcher bearer, is 23 3s., journeys of any distance being undertaken.
