IT SEEMS only the other day when we dealt with the changes made in the exhibits in the motor section of the British Empire Exhibition, but it is obviously a month ago, and now we have to record 'three alterations effected by exhibitors, and the last that will be made, because the exhibition is tithed to close on November 1st. These changes have been made by the Albion Motor Car Co , Ltd., Karrier Motors, Ltd., and Leyland Motors, Ltd. A 30-cwt. Albion petrol-can wagon displayed during September has given place to a. 19-seater Albion " Viking " motor coach. This has a 24 h.p. engine mounted in a chassis with a 14-ft. -wheelbase, and disc wheels equipped with 34-in. by 7-in.

straight sided pneumatic tyres. The body is of the streamline design on private car lines, and has a metalframed V-type windscreen, Cape-cart hood and curtains, the platform level being so low that only a single step is required. With electric lighting and complete equipment this vehicle sells at £1,015, the chassis price being £635 ex works.

The 14-seater Karrier bus on a 30cwt. C-type chassis has been removed, and in place there is shown the Karrker road sweeper and collector. The power unit of this is a 4-cylinder engine 95 mm. bore by 140 mm. stroke, driving through a 3-speed gearbox and a worm driven rear axle. The machine is equipped with a road brush 24 ins. in diameter and 7 ft. 6 ins long in six

segments. The elevating motors turn at 140 r.p.m. The width of the sweep is 7 ft., the body capacity 60 cubic feet, the capacity of the water tank 150 gallons, and the yehicle is capable of sweeping 30 miles of roadway per day at an approximate cost of 1s. 641. per mile run. The price complete is Leylands magnificent 700-1,000 gallon fire-engine with its 80 h.p. 6-cylinder engine is replaced by a 38-seater standard model single-deck bus of the Ribble type with a half-cab, the chassis on which the body is mounted being the side type (S.G.9). The engine is the 36-40 b.p, unit, driving through a four-speed gearbox to a worm drive back axle. The body is well-planned and is in two compartments. The price of the bus complete with C.A.V. lighting is £1,679, the chassis selling at £970.

Other exhibits are by Thoroycroft, Scammell, Guy, Yorkshire, Tilling-Stevens, Dennis, Bristol, • Morris, Beardmore, Unic, Maudslay, Halley, Burford, Austin, Atkinson, Vulcan, Sentinel, Foden, Garrett and Mann, constituting a group which, although not. coniplete, is very repres.entative of the productions of the commercial motor industry.
