• Hauliers across Scotland will soon be able to access a range of real-time traffic information and predicted journey times via the Internet.

The Scottish Executive has signed a 1500,000 deal with traffic data company ITIS Holdings to supply a journey time planner covering Scotland's reads; it can be accessed through the Executive's traffic website www.nadics.org.uk.

Drivers will simply input their proposed route, including their expected date and time of travel. The 'normal' journey time will then be given, together with the predicted time allowing for current read works and congestion.

John Gooday, Traffic Controller Scotland says: "This is an important investment by the Scottish Executive. It will allow us to provide an important service to the travelling public In Scotland, but will also allow changing traffic patterns to be monitored on our roads, providing us with additional valuable intelligence on national traffic conditions."

North Berwick-based haulier Andrew Black of Andrew Black Haulage and Storage says it's a great idea. He hopes his company will benefit from being able to access up-to-date Information, particularly on Edinburgh's city bypass, se It can make the necessary changes to routes, The service is due to go live in January.
