I WAS very interested to read the article on the campaign being advocated by your magazine to improve the road transport industry's public image.

For our part, we have acted very much in this vein, since we have been keen to ensure that the requirements of the heavy haulage section of the industry should be well represented to the Ministry of Transport.

With this in mind we have already had several meetings with the Ministry of Transport, and recently the last meeting not only involved ourselves but a cross-section of specialist heavy haulage operators. The main objective of the meeting was to get across to the Ministry th implications of the new 384 legislation on the heavy hau side of the industry.

In particular, we were concerned that at heavy wei the axle load requirements would impose too much we on the king pin. We, togethe with the rest of the group, indicated the need for Jeep Dollies to be legalised so thE they could be used under Special Types applications.

Our campaigning has alre met with success since the Ministry has issued SVO on Dollies. We are therefore ab1 confirm at first hand that a c section approach rather thar parochial approach is well worthwhile.

This brings me back to the steering group that is being up by CM, since it is our opir that it is essential that on suc grouping there should be adequate representation of t heavy haulage side of the industry.
