A FULL-SCALE trial of rear-engined L-1double-deck buses is to be made by Edinburgh Corporation Transport, following the recent experimental operation of three demonstration buses. The transport committee has approved the purchase of 50 new Leyland double-deckers, of which 25 will be rear-engined Atlanteans and the remainder PD3 models,
The recent experiment involved the operation of a Leyland Allantean and an AEC Renown with Park Royal bodies and a Daimler Fleetline with Alexander body, all of front-entrance layout. No decision has yet been made on the bodywork to be fitted to the new Leylands.
