back with subbies

• TOG is poised to expand a service that uses a "multiplicity" of subcontractors as part of its push for growth in the contract logistics sector.

The company, which last week announced a 5% drop in pre-tax profit to ,£23.5m for 2001, hopes to build on the back of its "Optimised Transport" service which was launched in 2000.

The first major project, with Nestle, allows vehicle movements to be co-ordinated centrafly by using a team of approved subcontractors.

TDG says it is now at an advanced stage of negotiation with several other companies for this service. Chief executive David Garman expects profits in 2002 to be at a similar level to last year.

"Trading conditions in both the UK and Continental Europe are likely to remain challenging," Garman predicts.
