Disarged batteries can be brought to a state charge sufficient to start the engine within ir with this equipment.

rARTALL EQUIPMENT LTD.

3 London Road,

sines, Middx.

VO engine starter/booster chargers are 3de by this company and both are similar general design and construction and are )unted on a pair of wheels with stands at the ward edges of the cabinets. The 612 is itable for 6V and 12V circuits and charges up to 35amp nominal with 150amp interttently while the 624 adds a connection • 24V and charges at up.to 55amp nominal d 250amp intermittently.

Both these units are suitable also for ntinuous charging—the 612 at a rate of 5 to 15amp and the 624 at 4 to 18amp. ey have full fuse protection on input and tput circuits and the high-output circuit is ditionally protected by an automatic preset le switch. The 624 measures 35in. by 18in. 18in.. weighing 125Ib while the 612 lasures 37in. (over the handle) by 14in. by in. and weighs 60Ib. The 624 is provided th a 12V inspection-light socket on the ntrol panel.

STENOR LTD.

Kew Foot Road, Richmond, Surrey.

TWO Stenor charger/starter models are similar in general design and appearance but whereas one caters for only 6V and 12V batteries, the other has facilities for 24V. Both of them are mobile units with two small wheels and a stand at the opposite end of the base.

The smaller machine is the SB 6250 which will give a fast charge on 6V at up to 100amp and on 12V at up to 60amp. For slow charging continuously, the rate is up to 15amp. The bigger, SB 2450 Stenor machine gives the same slow charging rates at 6 and 12V and will in addition fast charge 24V batteries at up to 50amp.

On both models there is a selenium rectifier and double-wound fully impregnated transformer. Controls are simple and selection of the particular voltage required is by an adjustable link bar on the front panel.

The SB 6250 measures 29in. by 14in. by 10in, and weighs 601b while the SB 2450 measures 33in. by 17in. by 13in. and weighs 751b. Current trade prices for the SB 6250 is £72 10s net and for the SB 2450, £96 lOs net.

SUNTESTER LTD.

Oldmeadow Road.

King's Lynn, Norfolk.

THE Sun Model BC-160 will give a fast or slow charge to 6 or 12V batteries and an important feature is polarity protection which prevents damage to vehicle components resulting from incorrect connection of the charger leads. An automatic timing control prevents battery overcharge and at the completion of a pre-set period of fast charge, the rate is automatically reduced to a low level.

The BC-160 can also be used as a fast charger and booster for engine starting and will provide up to 75amp at 6V or 50amp at 12V for these purposes.

A smaller charger from this concern is the BC-120 which is a portable unit and will charge 6V batteries at up to 25amp and 12V batteries at up to 15amp. The charge rate can be varied by a selector control and the model incorporates overload protection and a charge-rate compensation system which prevents battery damage through overcharging.

TELEMETERS LTD.

Aylmer House, The High, Harlow, Essex.

THE Marinair battery charger is a small unit which automatically regulates its output according to the state of charge for the battery to which it is fitted. Two types are produced, the Type S which is designed for battery storage areas and can maintain up to 100 or more batteries in good condition. The Type F is designed for the rapid recharging of batteries and can restore a full charge to a run-down battery in a couple of hours.

The charger will operate on 6, 12 and 24V and is made in various ratings to suit a variety of purposes. The principle of operation is that the voltage of the battery is sensed by the control circuit which determines whether the silicon rectifiers shall pass the charging currents. When the battery voltage rises to 2.25V per cell the output of the charger is restricted to hold this figure. Internal circuits are designed to prevent damage from misuse and the output leads can be shortened or connected with reversed polarity without damage to the charger or the battery.

A. C. WITHNELL LTD.

163 Stanwell Road, Ashford, Middx.

THERE are three Wynall Hercules charger/ starters available from this company. Two of them are suitable for 6 and 12V while the third is usable also on 24V circuits.

The Hercules 12 Volt 30 gives a boostcharge rate of 30amp on 6 and 12V with 150/200amp for starting. It has a variableoutput control switch and a separate circuit for starting. The 24 Volt 30 is similar in design to the smaller model and gives 30amp output on 24V as well as the 12V and 6V connections. The starting current is the same and this model has a remote control system so that one man can operate it from the driver's seat. The 24 Volt 30 costs £45 10s as against £35 10s for the 12 Volt 30 (net trade) and is supplied mounted on a two-wheel trolley with extended handle.

A similar model to the 24 Volt 30 is the 12 Volt Super 50 but its use is limited to 6 and 12V systems when the boost-charge rate is 50amp.

WESTINGHOUSE GARAGE EQUIPMENT LTD.

Hanham Road, Kingswood. Bristol.

THE LATEST addition to the Westinghouse range of garage equipment is a mobile charger/starter unit—the Model GE60which has two wheels and a front stand. An electronic unit regulates the voltage so that there is no risk of overcharging and a built-in polarity protector prevents current flow if the charger is wrongly connected. The equipment is protected against overloading by a magnetic circuit breaker.

Rated output of the model for engine starting is 200amp on 6V and 150amp on 12V systems. For rapid charging, the rate is 80amp on 6V and 50amp on 12V; the model can be used for normal charging when it can supply up to five 12V or 10 6V batteries. A separate distribution panel is supplied for normal charging purposes and is specially designed to permit charging at a rate not exceeding 10amp. The recommended selling price of the GE60 is £93 10s with the distribution panel costing E5 extra.
