Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A new offer has been made by the Dttish Bus Group to take over the Glasw Corporation transport undertaking. It 1 be considered soon by a special corntee and could lead to a decision on this ntroversial and long-standing issue within next two months.

Early last year the committee rejected the a draft lease put forward by the SBG as ntirely unsuitable". The stumbling block s a proposal that the Group should have right to dispose of the transport untaking's L14m assets.

This difficulty seems to have been ironed but the big question now is how the ole Corporation will view the proposed II. Cllr. Graham Spence, transport corntee sub-convener would not give me ails of the revised draft, but he felt it ;tit be more acceptable to the Corpora Councillors have mixed feelings about a rger of the city's transport services. my of them feel it has to come, in view of constant financial crises which affect the )artment; they also believe it will mean a ire efficient transport service.

Other councillors take the line that if the G could run municipal transport services a profit, the Corporation itself should be e to make a success of it. In fact it's a ,hly explosive issue. The first moves tords such a take-over were made early in 66.

One plan is that the SBG should have a se of the transport undertaking for 30 irs, paying the Corporation an annual t. The Group would also take over about n of liabilities.

If the Corporation gives the go-ahead on ; new offer, further consultations will e place with the Government and trade ons involved_ A likely alternative to the plan is the mation of a Government-controlled Pasiger Transport Authority—which the city :s not want. With a PTA., the city would responsible for any deficit from local in services and parking.
